Catch am! Catch am!! Thief! Thief!! Thief!!!

The above phrase which forms the chorus of one of the late Fela Anikulapo-kuti’s songs blared from a speaker aboard an open van as protesters marched against the removal of petroleum subsidy as announced the day the first day of 2012 by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
I like many other tweeps (a term used for those who use the social media platform known as twitter) had received the news on twitter via different news agency, and like many people had concluded this was a coup against the populace who had voted President Goodluck  Ebele Jonathan to alleviate their sufferings.
I will not dwell on the adverse effect this sudden decision by the President and his kitchen cabinet might unleash on Nigerians, as a lot of people like Japheth popularly known as Omojuwa (you can read him up on www.omojuwa.com), Pat Utomi etc. have dealt with the matter extensively. For now, feed your eyes with visuals from the protests.
NB: watch this space for a follow-up article on my experience as an eyewitness as I still nurse my swollen legs used in trekking from Yaba to Ojota. You can also follow me on twitter via @thenaijaseer.
Other recommended tweeps to follow are @omojuwa @aninoritse @toluogunlesi @elrufai @BankyW @RickNwanso @samuelsonly @shadeladipo @rosanwo @eggheader @ogundamisi @EngrMuza @AbangMercy. There are many others too on twitter, you’ll find them if you are not already following them.
